BENEFITS OF LEADERSHIP NORTHWEST MISSOURI
Leadership Northwest Missouri will:

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
Participants will be selected based on their desire to become a more effective leader in the region.
Leadership Northwest Missouri recognizes the strength of diversity and will strive for a diverse
class composition. Our region is defined as the following counties: Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan,
Caldwell, Carroll, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Livingston, Mercer,
Nodaway, and Worth. Each county will be guaranteed one class spot. (If a qualified application is
not received from a county, the unused space will be available to anyone within the region.)
Applicants will be selected based on the county in which they reside or work. The Selection
Committee reserves the right to review and select applicants from outside the defined region.

TUITION
Tuition is $500, which includes lodging on January 23rd, all session meals, a participant notebook, and Leadership Challenge materials. Tuition
scholarships of 50% may be available. Contact Deb Powers, Heartland Foundation (816.271.7185) for more information on
scholarships and sponsorships.
Completed applications must be delivered or postmarked by October 31st, 2007
to: 518 S. 6th Street, St. Joseph, MO 64501. The Selection Committee will then review applications and select class members. Full payment is due before January 4, 2008.

TIME COMMITMENT AND CLASS MEETING DATES
Classes will meet monthly beginning with a two-day retreat in St. Joseph on January 23rd and
24th. They will continue at locations throughout the region on February 21st, March 20th, April 17th, May 15th, and June 5th. Graduation will be the evening of June 26th, to be followed by an
optional project retreat on July 10th.
Classes begin at 9 a.m. and will adjourn by 4 p.m. Also, there will be required evening activities on January 23rd.

- Search out challenging opportunities to change, grow, innovate and improve.
- Experiment, take risks, and learn from the accompanying mistakes.

- Set the example by behaving in ways that are consistent with shared values.
- Achieve small wins that promote consistent progress and build commitment.

Skill – Enabling Others to Act
- Foster collaboration by promoting cooperative goals and building trust.
- Strengthen people by giving power away, providing choice, developing competence,
assigning critical tasks and offering visible support.

- Envision an uplifting and ennobling future.
- Enlist others in a common vision by appealing to their values, interests, hopes and
dreams.

Attendance at all sessions is required!*
You are expected to attend every session. However, you will be allowed to be absent from one session with prior approval and permission of the Executive Director. An absence is missing a whole session or any part thereof. If you miss more than the one approved absence; you will need to make up the applicable session(s) the following year in order to graduate.
*New attendance policy effective with Class of 2005.
