TIME COMMITMENT AND CLASS MEETING DATES

Classes will meet monthly beginning with a two-day retreat in St. Joseph on January 23rd and 24th. They will continue at locations throughout the region on February 21st, March 20th, April 17th, May 15th, and June 5th. Graduation will be the evening of June 26th, to be followed by an optional project retreat on July 10th.

Classes begin at 9 a.m. and will adjourn by 4 p.m. Also, there will be required evening activities on January 23rd.

Attendance at all sessions is required!* You are expected to attend every session. However, you will be allowed to be absent from one session with prior approval and permission of the Program Coordinator. An absence is missing a whole session or any part thereof. If you miss more than the one approved absence; you will need to make up the applicable session(s) the following year in order to graduate.

Leadership Northwest MissouriSM Class of 2008 held their graduation ceremony Thursday evening, June 26th at the St. Joseph Country Club. The celebration began at 6:00 p.m. and included a reception, dinner and program. Mrs. Judy Bowman, Lee’s Summit, and 2007 graduate of Leadership Northwest MissouriSM, served as Emcee. Mrs. Annette Weeks, class of 2007, Savannah, served as hostess for the evening. Ms. Lurinda Turner, Board Chair and 2004 graduate from Chillicothe, extended a welcome to all in attendance. Dr. Terry Robertson, class of 2004, Maryville, gave the invocation. Mr. Kevin Austin, Grant City, member of the Finance Committee and class of 2007, recognized all sponsors and thanked them for their generous and continued commitment. Mr. Gary Kincaid, Savannah, represented the class, sharing experiences and memories of the last six months.

Two special presentations were made during the course of the evening. Mr. Ed Schmidt, class of 2008 and Commander of the American Legion Post 33 in Cameron, presented classmate Mrs. Lesley Schulte, Maryville, an award in honor of her husband, Alan, who is currently serving with the National Guard in Kosovo. He also recognized Lesley for the commitment she makes for our country as a wife of a serviceman. The Leadership Northwest MissouriSM Citizenship Award for 2008 was presented by Ms. Turner to Dr. Tim Crowley, of St. Joseph. Dr. Crowley is a keynote speaker, corporate trainer and author who speaks throughout the US and abroad. He is the opening retreat facilitator for Leadership Northwest MissouriSM and inspires and guides individuals to attain their peak performance while realizing their dreams, goals and aspirations. Ms. Turner then presented each of the twenty-one graduating class members a plaque for completing the program. Mark Sitherwood and Mike Yuille received certificates of participation.

Leadership Northwest MissouriSM is a leadership development program designed to bring together participants from throughout a 16-county region to sharpen their leadership skills, explore regional issues and gain a network of contacts throughout the region. The class began in January and continued through June with monthly sessions in various northwest Missouri communities. Classes were held in King City, Maryville, Princeton, St. Joseph, Tarkio and Trenton. Each session contained instruction on various leadership skills, in-depth examinations of various issues facing the region and hands-on exercises. In addition to economic development, other regional issues that were addressed included healthcare, education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and the legislative process.

Leadership Northwest MissouriSM brings together participants from throughout the region to hone their leadership skills, explore regional issues and gain a network of contacts throughout the region.

The class will continue through June with sessions held in various communities throughout the region: Trenton, King City, Princeton, Maryville and Tarkio. Each session will include instruction on various leadership skills, in depth examinations of various issues facing the region and hands-on experiential exercises. Some of the regional issues to be addressed are workforce development, education, economic development, infrastructure, health and the political process.
